Mysterious snake spotted in Al Rams

Ras Al Khaimah: Municipality engineers on a helicopter assignment on Tuesday pictured a snake believed to be one of the longest found in the mountains of Al Rams area.
The team of engineers were on an assignment for planning and surveying the remote areas when they spotted the snake.
A team member said they asked the helicopter pilot to fly lower and used a telephoto lens to take the picture. They said the snake was half inside a burrow and what they could see was several metres long.
The engineers showed the pictures to their colleagues at the reptile section in the municipality, where the officials said had never encountered such a long snake in the UAE or the region.
Meanwhile, Emiratis living in the mountainous areas urged the municipality to take measures to protect their families from snakes during the summer.
The Emiratis said the daily blastings at rock quarries in the mountains were forcing the snakes to flee from their natural habitat and come down to residential areas and pose a serious threat to people
They said several snakes had been killed in residential areas in the past two months where the emirate's authorities should take this issue more seriously.
Last month, Emiratis from Al Rams areas found two poisonous snakes in houses. In southern Al Dhaid, several other snakes were killed in the houses of Emiratis and expatriates.
The residents said the spread of mangroves has also made the situation bad with more snakes coming out of the mangroves during the summer months.
A senior official at the medical district said an emergency plan has been put in place to cope with the spread of the snakes in the various areas of Ras Al Khaimah.
The official said hospitals and medical districts have been provided with the necessary medications and equipment to handle the snake bite cases.
The official said the medical district is currently considering a public training course on first aid after a snake bite.
