People, winter is here! (with a bit of dust ) After all, what better way to celebrate the season other than drinking hot beverages to ease the cold weather.

The other day, Usef and I took a ride to a new Kuwaiti cafe called “Haleeb Khana”. We arrived to the cafe around sunset and the place was empty. It had 6-8 tables outside and 4 inside. We were both excited to try out some traditional Kuwaiti drinks and see if it was up to the standards that we expected.

When we took a look at the menu, we were both happy to see that they had plenty of drink choices that will surely satisfiy their customers. The one thing that I didn’t know how to react to was their cold beverage names. I didn’t know if I should laugh with it or at it .. It was a bit ameturish to be honest.

I’ve had an order of (Zaafranchino) which is a cold blended drink of milk and saffron and one order of (Mahalbiya) while Usef ordered (Masala Milk) a hot milk mixed with cinnamon, cardamom, and other spices and one order of (Gers oqaily).

I really liked (zaafranchino) you could taste the saffron with every single sip. It was refreshing, tasty, and surely unique.

Unfortunately, I didn’t like their (Mahalbiya) dessert at all. It was very watery “Maay Maayo” unless you want to drink it as a soup, I wouldn’t recommend you to order it.

Usef thought the (Masala Milk) beverage was great. The aroma and the spice notes hits your mouth but it doesn’t overwhelm it. Furthermore, he loved his (Gers oqaily) he felt that it was moist and you can swiftly taste the cardmom and saffron.

All in all, we truly believe that (Haleeb Khana cafe) have a good potential as a Kuwaiti cafe but it needs to do two things, add a better variety of sandwiches and relocate to a better location.
